PEPPER NUTS 
1 1/2 c. white sugar
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
2 c. sorghum or dark syrup
2 eggs
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
3 tbsp. anise oil or 3 tbsp. seeds
1 c. sweet cream or canned milk
1 c. butter
1 c. finely chopped nuts
1 3/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda (rounded)
2 tsp. baking powder
Flour to make a stiff dough

Combine ingredients, using enough flour to make a stiff dough. Refrigerate dough several hours. Bake in moderate oven at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes until lightly browned. Roll dough in small rolls, cut 3/4 inch wide. Rolls wrapped in waxed paper will keep quite a while and you can cut off as needed. Makes a big batch.
