BREAD
1 c. scalded milk
1 c. cold water
1 level tbsp. shortening

In separate bowl, put:

2 pkg. yeast
1 c. lukewarm water
2 tsp. sugar

Let stand about 10 minutes. Sift 8 cups flour into large bowl, add 1/3 cup sugar and 1 tablespoon salt.

Make a hole in center of flour; pour in yeast and milk mixtures. Stir all together, then use hands to knead. Put on floured board; knead until smooth and elastic. Place in greased bowl and rub a little on top of dough.

Cover and let rise in warm place about 1 hour or doubled in size. Punch down and knead again on floured board. Cover and let rise again 1 hour or until doubled. Punch down. Now make 3 loaves. Put into greased bread pans, top side down; then turn over so a little grease is on top. Let rise until doubled in size.

Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 25-30 minutes. This recipe can be doubled or even tripled.
