MILKLESS, BUTTERLESS, EGGLESS
CAKE
 
1 c. dark brown sugar
1 c. water
1 1/2 c. seedless raisins
1/3 c. shortening or lard
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. warm water
2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder

Boil first 8 ingredients together for 3 minutes. Cool. Dissolve soda in warm water; add to cooled mixture. Sift flour and baking powder together; add to liquid mixture until blended. Bake in an 8 x 8 x 2 pan at 350 degrees for 25 to 35 minutes.
