LYE SOAP | |
1 can lye 2 1/2 pts. cold water 6 lbs. pork fat, or grease saved from frying bacon Melt fat and let cool. In a small enamel pan add lye to cold water stirring to dissolve. Put grease in big enamel dish pan. Pour lye solution into melted grease in a thin steady stream, with slow even stirring. (Rapid pouring or stirring causes separation.) Continue to stir until wooden spoon can stand up on its own. Let stand for 24 hours in the enamel pan. Then cut into bars. |
