GERMAN FRIED POTATOES 
8 med. potatoes, peeled & sliced potato chip style
1/2 c. onion, chopped
1/4 c. butter
1/8 c. shortening or oil
Salt to taste

Place all ingredients together in large frying pan, over medium high heat. Cover, stir occasionally. Cook until tender and brown, approximately 20 minutes. Yield: 4 servings.

When I was little my grandmother would slice potatoes like a chip and lay them on top of and old cast iron oven until they were cooked (little bit burnt)drop them in a bowl with melted butter salt and pepper. She was Pa Dutch. Trying to find out where the dish originated and what the German name for these are
