SANDY'S CHERRY TORTE 
6 egg whites
3/4 tsp. cream of tartar
2 c. sugar
2 c. saltines, broken
1/4 c. chopped nuts
2 pkg. Dream Whip
2 tsp. vanilla
1 can cherry pie filling

Beat egg whites stiff along with cream of tartar, slowly add sugar. Fold in nuts and crackers. Grease a 9 x 13 inch pan. Spread in pan.

Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 25 minutes. Cool. Beat Dream Whip and vanilla. Spread on crust. Top with pie filling. Sprinkle nuts on top. Chill.

This is a family favorite and easy to make. It keeps really well too, if you need to make the night before, just refrigerate then just before you need it spread on the whip topping and pie filling. I use fat free cool whip, and "no sugar added" cherry pie filling. You can make an American flag of it for 4th of July by making the stars with Blueberry pie filing and the stripes with Cherry pie filling just don't try to make the precise number of stars and stripes. Enjoy!
