MARASCHINO CHERRY BARS 
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/4 c. confectioners' sugar
3/5 c. butter

Mix and sift flour and sugar; cut in butter until fine crumbs are formed. Press mixture on bottom of an UNGREASED pan (9 x 13 x 2 inches). Bake in preheated 350 degree oven about 20-25 minutes, until light golden. Watch so it does not brown. Spread with topping. Makes about 4 dozen delicious cookies.

STEP 2 - TOPPING:

1/3 c. flour
3/4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. shredded coconut
1 c. chopped nuts
3 eggs
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. chopped maraschino cherries

Mix flour, baking powder and salt, add coconut and nuts and mix. Beat eggs until fluffy; add sugar gradually, beating after each addition. Add vanilla and cherries and dry ingredients and mix. Spread on hot crust. Bake in preheated 350 degree oven about 25 minutes longer. Cool, cut into bars or squares.
