CORNBREAD 
1 1/3 c. yellow cornmeal
1/3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tbsp. sugar
1 beaten egg
1 c. buttermilk
2 tbsp. melted shortening

Combine dry ingredients and mix well. Add buttermilk and egg; stir. Add melted shortening; mix and turn into greased iron skillet.

Bake at 400°F for 25 minutes.

Note: I use my iron skillet (which was a wedding present 65 years ago), melting the shortening in it, therefore have my pan already greased.
