EVERYDAY CHOCOLATE CAKE 
2 c. sugar
6 tbsp. Crisco shortening
1 egg
4 tbsp. cocoa dissolved in 1 c. boiling water
2 tsp. baking soda dissolved in 1 c. boiling water
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
3 c. cake flour
2 tsp. baking powder

Dissolve cocoa in the boiling water. Let stand until needed. Cream sugar and Crisco. Add the egg, then the cocoa mixture and vanilla. Sift the flour, salt and baking powder together and add. Lastly, add the soda and the boiling water mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 1/2 hour or until done. Bake in rectangular pan.
