1 pkg. dry yeast 5 c. sifted flour 1 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. baking soda 2 c. buttermilk 3 tbsp. sugar 1/4 tsp. baking powder 4 tbsp. shortening Heat buttermilk to lukewarm and dissolve yeast in it. Sift dry ingredients and cut in shortening. Add buttermilk and yeast mixture and mix well. Cover and store in refrigerator overnight preferred or until ready to use. About 1 1/2 hours before serving, shape and let rise. Bake at 400 degrees until brown, about 15 minutes. |
