NO-KNEAD BRIOCHE FOR HOLIDAY
BREAD
 
Combine:

1 c. scalded milk
1/4 c. shortening
1/4 c. sugar
2 tsp. salt

Cool to lukewarm.

Add:

1 cake compressed yeast

(Or 1 package dry granulated yeast dissolved as directed). Mix well.

Blend in:

2 eggs

Add:

3 1/2 c. sifted flour

Mix until well blended. Cover and let stand 15 minutes. If you are going to make into Holiday Bread at this stage add walnut halves and candied cherries or whatever you desire in way of candied fruit.

Shape into rolls and place in greased pan, or into loaf pan. Let rise in warm place (85-90 degrees) until double in bulk, usually about 1 hour. Bake in moderate oven (375 degrees) for 20 minutes for rolls or loaf until golden brown. Test with toothpick if desired. Makes 18 rolls or one large loaf.
