COMPANY FRENCH TOAST | |
8 slices of French bread 1/2 inch thick 4 eggs, beaten lightly 1 c. half and half 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. vanilla Pinch of cinnamon Pinch of nutmeg butter Remove crust from bread. Combine eggs, half and half, vanilla, and spices. Dip bread slices in mixture. Place slices in glass baking dish large enough to accommodate the bread in a single layer, and pour remaining liquid over pieces. Let bread absorb all liquid. Fry in butter over medium heat. When brown on one side, turn and brown second side. Turn only once. Drain bread on paper towel and place on baking sheet put in a 400 degree oven for 5 minutes to puff up. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve immediately with your favorite jelly or syrup. |
