RED VELVET CAKE 
1/4 c. red food coloring
4 tbsp. Nestle Chocolate Quik
1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
2 1/2 c. cake flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda

Mix and set aside the food coloring and Nestle Quik. Cream shortening and sugar. Add coloring mixture to shortening and beat 10 minutes. Add eggs. Alternate buttermilk with cake flour to which salt has been added. Add vanilla and beat. Mix in slowly by hand the vinegar and soda. Bake in 2 (9 inch) pans in 350 degree oven.
