GINGER COOKIES 
1 stick butter
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. gold label molasses
4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. hot water
Powdered sugar

Cream shortening, add sugar and cream well. Add egg and mix. Blend in molasses. Sift spices with flour. Add baking soda into the hot water. Add flour mixture alternately with hot water to the cookie batter.

Place rounded tablespoons of batter on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Let cookies cool slightly and put a glaze icing on each one.

GLAZE:

Powdered sugar
Water
