SOUR CREAM APPLE SQUARES 
2 c. flour
2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 c. chopped nuts
1-2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. sour cream
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
2 c. finely chopped, peeled apples

Heat oven to 350 degrees. In large bowl combine flour, brown sugar and butter. Blend at low speed until crumbly. Stir in nuts. Press 2 3/4 cups of crumb mixture into ungreased 13"x9" pan. to remaining mixture add cinnamon, baking soda, salt, sour cream, vanilla and egg; blend well. Stir in apples. Spoon evenly over base. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cut into squares. If desired, serve with whipped cream or ice cream and toppings.
