DATE AND CHOCOLATE CHIP CAKE 
Chopped dates
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. corn oil butter
1 c. sugar
1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tbsp. cocoa
3/4 c. chopped nuts
6 oz. chocolate chips

Pour 1 cup boiling water over 1 cup cut-up dates. Cream 1 cup corn oil butter with 1 cup sugar. Add 2 slightly beaten eggs and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Mix 1 3/4 cups flour, 2 tablespoons cocoa, 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1 teaspoon baking soda. Add flour mixture alternating with date mixture to shortening mixture. Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan.

Sprinkle 3/4 cup chopped nuts and 6 ounce package chocolate chips over top. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 30 minutes.
