GRANDMA'S EGGLESS, MILKLESS,
BUTTERLESS CAKE
 
2 c. brown sugar
2 c. hot water
4 tbsp. lard
2 c. raisins
2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. cinnamon and cloves

Put ingredients into a saucepan. Boil for 5 minutes. Remove from heat. When cool, add 2 teaspoons baking soda dissolved in 1 tablespoon warm water, 3 cups bread flour. Mix well. Bake in leaf pan at 300 degrees for 1 1/2 hours.
