CHERRY SQUARES 
2 sticks butter (softened)
1 c. sugar
4 eggs (room temperature)
2 c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. lemon or vanilla flavoring
1 can cherry pie filling
1 oblong glass baking dish (greased)
1/2 c. sifted 10x sugar (optional)
1/2 c. finely chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Cream butter and sugar in a mixing bowl. Add 1 egg at a time and mix thoroughly after each egg. Add flour 1/2 cup at a time and mix thoroughly after each addition. Add flavoring and nuts.

Pour into a greased baking dish. With a tablespoon dip pie filling on top of batter. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes until golden brown and pie filling is bubbly. Let cool. Sprinkle 10x sugar on top. Cut into 12 squares.
