SLOW-COOKER APPLE BUTTER 
Apple slices
1/2 c. water
2 to 3 c. sugar (or to taste)
1/2 c. cider vinegar
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. allspice

Fill 4 to 5 quart slow cooker with pared, cored, sliced apples. Add water. Cook on low until apples are tender. If you wish you can put this on at bedtime and cook all night.

Next morning, pour off all liquid. Puree cooked apples in blender. Return to slow cooker. Add sugar, spices and vinegar. Cook for 3 hours or until spreading consistency. Makes 2 to 3 pints.
