ITALIAN CASSEROLE 
1 1/2 lb. ground beef
1 1/2 c. fresh or frozen chopped onions
1 (32 oz.) jar spaghetti sauce
1/3 c. water
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. basil
1 tsp. oregano
1 tsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. black pepper
4 or 5 cans sliced potatoes
1 (8 oz.) pkg. Mozzarella cheese, shredded

In 12 inch skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef and onions until onions are tender (almost 10 minutes) stirring occasionally. Add spaghetti sauce, water, salt, basil, oregano, sugar, and pepper. Cook 2 more minutes to blend flavors.

In 13 x 9 inch baking dish, evenly spoon 1/3 of meat mixture. Arrange sliced potatoes evenly on top. Repeat meat mixture. Take a fork and mix the meat and potatoes. Cover dish tightly with foil. Bake at 375 degrees for 1 hour or until potatoes are fork tender.

Remove foil. Sprinkle mixture evenly with Mozzarella cheese. Bake 10 minutes or until cheese melts. Let stand 10 minutes for easier serving. makes 8 servings.

Note: I make these in the foil pans and freeze/will make 4 large or 2 (8 x 8 inch) pans.
