SANTA MARIA BEANS 
2 lbs. Poquito beans (sm. red beans) or pinto beans
1 env. chili mix
1 med. onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 lb. bacon
1/2 to 1 lb. ground beef
1/2 tsp. pepper
2-4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. oregano
1 1/2 c. (12 oz.) tomato juice

Cover beans generously with water. Bring to a boil and add salt and pepper. Simmer for 2 hours or until tender. (Beans may be soaked to reduce cooking time.)

Saute meats, onion, and garlic. Drain grease and add to beans along with remaining ingredients. Simmer 1 hour.
