AUNT RUTH'S ORANGE SLICE CAKE 
1 lb. orange slices, chopped
1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. buttermilk
3 1/2 c. flour
1 pkg. dates
2 c. chopped nuts
1 c. coconut (optional)

Use 1/2 cup of this to sprinkle over nuts, dates, etc.

Mix as for any cake. Bake 2 1/2 to 3 hours at 250 degrees. Mix 1 cup fresh orange juice and 2 cups powdered sugar. Dissolve and let settle. Pour over hot cake.
