EASY BLACK FOREST CAKE
1 pkg. fudge cake mix
1 (3 oz.) pkg. cherry flavored gelatin
3/4 c. boiling water
3 tbsp. cherry liqueur (Kirsch)
2 env. Dream Whip
1 pkg. instant chocolate pudding mix
1 1/4 c. milk
1 (21 oz.) cherry pie filling

Prepare cake mix according to package directions. Bake in two 9 inch round layer pans. Let stand 5 minutes. Remove from pans; place on separate plates flat sides up. Meanwhile dissolve gelatin in boiling water; stir in 1/2 cup cold water and cherry liqueur. With tines of fork, prick holes in tops of cake layers; spoon warm gelatin mixture slowly over cake. Cover and chill 2 hours. In small mixer bowl, combine pudding, Dream Whip and milk; beat at medium speed of mixer until stiff, about 2 to 3 minutes. Using about 1 cup pudding mixture, make a rind 1/2 inch high and 1 inch wide around bottom cake layer. Fill center of pudding ring with cherry pie filling. (You might have some filling leftover). Using spatulas, carefully lift second cake layer and place, flat side down, atop cherry filling. Frost top and sides with remaining pudding mixture. Garnish with chocolate curls (or sprinkles) and cherries. Keep refrigerated.

I would love to know the origin of this recipe. I have been making it since the 70-80s.
