DARK FRUIT CAKE - STACKED 
2 1/2 c. flour
3/4 c. butter
1 c. dark syrup or molasses
1 c. sugar
3/4 c. sour milk
3 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 lb. candied cherries
1 lb. raisins
2 c. chopped pecans
1 lb. candied or aged lemon peeling
1/4 lb. candied citron
1/4 lb. candied pineapple

Cream butter and sugar, add beaten eggs, syrup and vanilla. Add soda, salt and spices to sifted flour, alternating with milk. Add nuts and fruits, mix well and bake in 3 layers, have pans lined with brown paper. Bake at 315 degrees for about 40 to 45 minutes.

ICING:

2 c. pecans, chopped
2 c. sugar
1 lb. dates
3/4 c. sweet milk
