CHOCOLATE LAYER CAKE 
2 c. sugar
3 sticks butter
1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
6 eggs
4 c. all-purpose flour
1 heaping tbsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
3/4 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract

Cream sugar, butter and cream cheese together. Beat eggs in a small bowl at high speed for about 5 minutes. Add to butter mixture and mix well. Sift flour, baking powder, and baking soda. Add half of flour mixture to the previous batter and mix for 10 minutes at low speed. Gradually add milk. Then add the remaining flour, mixing thoroughly. Finally, add the vanilla extract. Mix thoroughly and pour into 3 buttered 9-inch cake pans. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for about 30 minutes.

CHOCOLATE FROSTING:

7 (1 oz.) squares unsweetened chocolate
1/2 stick butter
2 1/2 c. powdered sugar
1/2 c. milk
A few drops vanilla extract

Melt the chocolate squares in a saucepan. Add butter, let simmer for about 1 minute over low heat. Add the powdered sugar. Then add the milk, stirring continuously. Let simmer for about 5 minutes and remove from heat. Stir in drops of vanilla. Let cool before frosting cake.
