OLD FASHIONED CORNBREAD 
2 c. self-rising cornmeal
1 egg
2 tbsp. flour
2 tbsp. hot shortening
1 1/2 c. buttermilk

Mix together, if too thick, add enough buttermilk to mix smoothly. Pour into very hot iron skillet. Bake at 450 degrees for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
