CREAM OF TOMATO SOUP 
1 slice onion
1 qt. milk or 1/2 and 1/2
2 tbsp. butter
2 tbsp. flour
1/4 tsp. white pepper
1 tsp. salt
2 c. tomatoes
2 tsp. sugar

Briefly cook the onion with the milk. Heat butter in double boiler. Add flour, seasoning, 2/3 cup hot milk, then the rest of the milk gradually. Cook tomatoes and sugar, strain. Add very gradually to the white sauce, stirring constantly.
