CHERRY CHEESE BARS 
1 c. walnuts, chopped
1 1/4 c. flour
1/2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 c. butter flavored shortening
1/2 c. flake coconut

FILLING:

1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
1/3 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 (21 oz.) can reg. or lite cherry pie filling

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease bottom of 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan.

FOR CRUST: Combine flour and brown sugar. Cut in shortening until fine crumbs form. Add 1/2 cup chopped nuts and coconut. Mix well. Remove 1/2 cup. Set aside. Press remaining crumbs in bottom of pan. Bake 12-15 minutes, until edges are lightly browned.

FOR FILLING: Beat cream cheese, sugar, egg, and vanilla until smooth. Spread over hot crust. Bake 10 minutes. longer. Spread pie filling on top. Combine reserved crumbs and 1/2 cup nuts, sprinkle over top. Bake 15 minutes longer. Cool. Cut into 24 bars.
