GINGERBREAD 
2 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 1/2 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. melted shortening or oil
1 1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
3/4 c. hot water

Combine shortening, molasses and egg in a large bowl. Combine dry ingredients. Add dry ingredients alternately with the hot water. Blend well. Bake in a greased 9 x 9 inch pan at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes. Serve with Orange Sauce or whipped cream.

ORANGE SAUCE:

2/3 c. orange juice frozen concentrate & 1/3 c. water or 1 c. fresh orange juice
4 tsp. lemon juice
1 1/2 tsp. cornstarch
1/4 c. sugar or honey

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring very often until thickened. Serve warm or cold.
