CHERRY SQUARES 
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. flour
1 can cherry pie filling

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, mix well. Add vanilla, flour, salt, baking powder; mix well. Grease 9x13 pan. Pour 3/4 batter into pan. Put cherry pie filling on top of the batter. Now put the rest of the batter on top of cherry filling. Bake at 375 degrees, 30 to 40 minutes.

(You may substitute blueberry or lemon for the cherry.
