IRISH TEA SCONES
1/2 c. butter
4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. milk (approximately)

Rub the butter into the flour. Add the baking powder, salt, and sugar, then mix well.

Beat the egg and add to the milk. Mix the liquid into the dry ingredients to make a manageable dough. Roll to 1-inch thick and cut into rounds with a pastry cutter.

Arrange on a lightly floured baking sheet and bake at 420 degrees until risen and brown, approximately 15 minutes. Makes 18 scones.

 MJ Flan (United States) says:
Delicious, but they don't rise very high. Fresh baking powder. Cold ingredients.
