PECAN SPICE COOKIES 
1/2 c. shortening (half butter)
1 1/4 c. brown sugar (packed)
1 egg
1 3/4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. each ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg
1/3 c. chopped pecans
4 to 5 doz. pecan halves (for top)

Heat oven 375 degrees. Mix shortening, sugar and egg thoroughly. Measure flour by dipping method or sifting. Blend dry ingredients, stir into shortening mixture. Stir in chopped pecans. Roll dough into 1 inch balls. Place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheet. Place a pecan half on top of each cookie, flattening slightly. Bake 10 to 12 minutes. Makes 4 to 5 dozen cookies. These cookies are good for shipping in the mail.
