HUNGARIAN POPPY-SEED NUT SLICES | |
1 c. butter, softened 1 c. plus 2 tbsp. sugar 1 lg. egg 1 tsp. vanilla 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1 1/2 c. finely chopped almonds 1/2 c. poppy seeds 2 c. flour 1/4 tsp. salt Colored sugar or Swedish pearl socker Beat butter and sugar in mixer bowl until light and fluffy. Add egg, vanilla and cinnamon and beat 2-3 minutes. Add nuts and poppy seeds; beat 1 minute more. Gradually stir in flour and salt. Refrigerate until dough is firm, about 3 hours. Shape into 2 rolls about 2 inches in diameter. Roll in 2 tablespoons sugar. Wrap in wax paper and refrigerate 3 hours. Preheat oven 325 degrees F. Roll logs in colored sugar if desired, I roll mine in coarse Swedish pearl sugar. Slice dough 1/4 inch thick. Bake 20 minutes or until edges are beginning to brown. Cool on wire racks. Makes 6 dozen, 70 calories each. |
