GERMAN CHOCOLATE CAKE | |
2 c. sugar 1 c. shortening (Crisco) 2 pkgs. German sweet chocolate, melted 5 egg yolks 2 1/2 c. flour 1 c. buttermilk 1 tsp. baking soda 5 egg whites, well beaten 1 tsp. vanilla Mix sugar, Crisco and cream together. Add chocolate, milk, flour and baking soda, mix well. Add egg whites and blend in vanilla. Bake in 9 inch pans. FOR ICING: Add 3 egg yolks, 1 cup sugar, 1/2 pint or 1 cup cream, 1/4 pound (1 stick) butter. Beat 1 minute (until thickens). Add 1 small cup of Baker's angel flake coconut, 1/2 cup pecans. Ice German Chocolate Cake. |
