RUBY FRUIT COMPOTE 
1 (1 lb.) can water pack pitted tart red cherries
Non caloric liquid sweetener equal to 1/2 c. sugar
1 tbsp. cornstarch
Dash salt
1 tbsp. lemon juice
4 drops red food coloring
Dash bitters
1 pt. fresh whole strawberries

Drain cherries, reserving liquid. Add water to cherry juice to make 1 1/2 cups. Blend sweetener, cornstarch, salt and cherry juice mixture. Cook stirring until thickened and bubbly. Add lemon juice, food coloring, bitters and fruits. Chill. Serves 6. To use fresh cherries, substitute 1 1/2 cups water for cherry juice mixture.
