BACHELOR BEEF STEW 
3 med. onions, cut in quarters
2 lbs. stewing beef (buy cut in chunks)
6 carrots, cut up
1 c. celery, cut up
1 lb. can tomatoes
1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
4 med. potatoes, quartered
3 tbsp. tapioca
1 1/2 tsp. salt

Place all ingredients in tightly covered Dutch oven (a heavy 5 quart pot with tightly fitting cover). Bake in 300 degree oven for 5 hours. Do not open oven at any time. Do not increase amounts of ingredients. (I do this in my little roaster pan.) Serves 6 to 8.
