CAROB BROWNIES 
1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2/3 c. flour
1/2 c. carob powder
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well blended. Stir in dry ingredients and mix well. Add nuts and spread into a well greased 8 inch square pan and bake for 30 minutes. Cool and cut into squares. Makes 16 brownies. May add peanut butter chips or carob chips.
