1/2 c. Crisco 1 tsp. baking soda 1 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 egg 1 tsp. salt 1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour 1/2 c. milk 1 tsp. vanilla 3 c. chopped apples, chunks 1/2 c. nuts TOPPING: 1/2 c. light brown sugar 2 tsp. cinnamon 2 tbsp. flour 2 tbsp. melted butter Cream sugar and shortening; add egg. Sift dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Add flour mixture to shortening mixture alternated with the milk and vanilla. Add apples. Nuts may be added to this mixture or added to topping. Topping mixture is crumbled to the size of a pea and added to the top of the batter after it is placed in the pan. Mixture is placed in a 9x13 inch greased pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. I prefer to put the nuts in the topping. |
