BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
1 gal. cucumbers, sliced thin
1/2 c. salt
1 qt. crushed ice and water
4 c. vinegar
4 c. sugar
2 tsp. celery seed
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
2 1/2 tbsp. mustard seed

Soak cucumbers in ice water and salt for 3 hours. Drain and rinse lightly with cold water. Mix other ingredients in large pot and heat to boiling, add cucumbers and heat through. DO NOT let boil after adding cucumbers. Put in sterilized jars and seal.
