BUTTER ROLL 
3 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 c. milk
1 tbsp. baking powder
1/3 c. shortening

Mix all ingredients with finger tips. Knead until smooth. Roll out 1/4 inch thick. Spread with 3/4 cup soft butter. Sprinkle 1 1/2 cups sugar on top. Roll up and cut into 1 1/2 inch pieces. Stand in large pudding pan. Slowly pour enough boiling water over roll to cover. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon vanilla on top.

Note: A dash of nutmeg may also be added to enhance the taste.
