LADY BALTIMORE CAKE 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. soft butter
1 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 c. all purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/3 tsp. salt
4 egg whites

Beat sugar and butter until fluffy. Gradually pour in milk and vanilla. Mix until blended. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl. Add to milk mixture and beat until smooth. Beat egg whites. Fold into batter.

FILLING:

1/2 c. seedless raisins
1/2 c. chopped figs
1/2 c. chopped pecans
1/4 c. chopped candied cherries

Place all ingredients in bowl; let stand 1 hour.

FROSTING:

1 c. sugar
1/4 c. light corn syrup
1/4 c. water
2 egg whites
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. vanilla

Place all ingredients except vanilla in top of boiler. Over boiling water beat with hand held mixer to soft peaks, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Add vanilla and beat until cool. Measure 2 cups and fold in filling. Makes 3 layers.
