ORANGE BRAN BREAD 
1 c. whole bran
3/4 c. orange juice
1/2 c. milk
2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 c. sugar
3 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
Grated rind of 1/2 orange
1 egg, well beaten
1/4 c. melted shortening

Combine the bran, orange juice, and milk. Let stand 15 minutes. Sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, soda and salt. Combine the grated orange rind, beaten egg and melted shortening and add to the bran mixture. Then add the sifted dry ingredients, mixing only until blended. Turn into a greased loaf pan (9 x 5 inches) and bake in a 325 degree oven for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Makes 1 loaf.
