1 c. shortening 1/2 c. sour milk or buttermilk 4 c. flour, sifted 1 tsp. baking soda 2 eggs 2 c. brown sugar 1 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. cinnamon Heat oven to 350 degrees. Mix shortening, brown sugar, eggs. Stir in sour milk and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients. Mix. Drop 1 teaspoons 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Place 1/2 teaspoon date mixture on dough. Cover with 1/2 teaspoon dough. Bake 10 to 12 minutes. DATE NUT FILLING: 2 c. dates or raisins, chopped 1/2 c. nuts 3/4 c. sugar 3/4 c. water Cook together slowly. Stir in nuts after thickened. If raisins are used, use 2 tablespoons lemon juice and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. |
