CHOCOLATE CHIP OATMEAL COOKIES 
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1 egg
1 tbsp. water
1/2 tsp. vanilla
3/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. Quaker or Mother's Oats (quick or old-fashioned, uncooked)
1 (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
1/4 c. chopped pecans

1. Cream shortening; add sugars gradually and cream well.

2. Beat in egg until fluffy. Stir in water and vanilla.

3. Sift together flour, soda and salt and add to creamed mixture.

4. Add oats, chocolate chips and nuts.

5. Drop from a teaspoon onto greased baking sheet.

6. Bake in moderate oven, 375 degrees, about 12 minutes.
