BREAD & BUTTER PICKLES 
1 gallon med. cucumbers
8 sm. onions, sliced
1 green pepper
1 red pepper
1/2 c. coarse salt
5 c. vinegar
cracked ice
5 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
2 tbsp. mustard seed
2 tsp. celery seed

Slice cucumbers thin. Cut peppers in narrow strips; add to the cucumbers along with the onions. Add salt. Cover with cracked ice; mix thoroughly and let stand 3 hours. Drain. Combine remaining ingredients. Pour over cucumber mixture. Bring to boil. Place in hot sterilized jars and seal. Makes 8 pints.
