NORWEGIAN CHOWDER 
2 lb. lean lamb
3 qts. (12 cups) boiling water
2/3 cup rolled oats
salt and pepper
2 cups sliced carrots
1 onion, finely chopped
4 potatoes, peeled and diced

Boil lamb in boiling water. When water is boiling, add oats and boil briskly for 5 minutes, lower heat and simmer until meat falls off the bone. Remove meat from bone and cut into small pieces, season with salt and pepper before returning to pot. Add 2 teaspoons salt to liquid, add vegetables and cook until tender.
