STRAWBERRY DAISY RING | |
3 - 3 1/2 c. flour 1 pkg. active dry yeast 3/4 c. milk 1/4 c. butter 2 tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. salt 2 eggs 1/2 c. strawberry preserves 2 tbsp. chopped nuts Confectioners' icing In large mixer bowl combine 1 1/2 cups flour and yeast. In sauce pan heat milk, butter, sugar and salt just until warm. Add to flour mixture; add eggs. Beat at low speed 1/2 minute then 3 minutes on high speed. Stir in as much of the remaining flour as you can mix with a spoon. Turn onto lightly floured surface. Knead in enough flour to make a stiff dough that is smooth and elastic. Place in greased bowl. Cover and let rise until double in size. Punch down, cover and let rest 10 minutes. To shape into daisy-style ring, roll dough into a 14 inch circle. Transfer to greased baking sheet. Place beverage tumbler in the center of the dough. Cut dough surrounding the tumbler into 20 strips. Twist 2 strips together, pinch ends an continue with remaining strips. Remove tumbler. Coil 1 twist in the center where tumbler was to create center of the daisy. Coil the remaining 9 twists around the outside. Let rise. Bake 375 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. Combine preserves and nuts. Spread evenly atop the bread. Drizzle with confectioners' sugar. |
