DATE PINWHEELS 
Prepare the filling first and set aside to cool.

FILLING:

3/4 c. water
1/2 c. sugar
1 pkg. dates

Cook until thick. Add 1/2 cup nuts, chopped.

DOUGH:

1 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
3 eggs, beaten
4 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream shortening, sugar, beaten eggs and vanilla. Stir in dry ingredients. Roll 1/4 inch thick. Spread with filling and roll as a jelly roll. Chill, slice. Bake at 375 degrees from 10 to 12 minutes.
