MONKEY BARS 
3/4 c. butter
2/3 c. sugar
2/3 c. packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. mashed ripe bananas (3 med.)
2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 (6 oz.) pkg. (1 c.) semi-sweet chocolate pieces
Powdered sugar (optional)

Turn oven to 350 degrees. Grease 15 x 10 x 1 inch baking pan with a little shortening. In a large mixer bowl, beat butter with electric mixer on medium sped until softened (about 30 seconds). Add sugar and brown sugar; beat until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla. Beat well. Stir in bananas.

In a medium mixing bowl stir together flour, baking powder and salt. With mixer on low speed gradually add the flour mixture to the banana mixture, beating until well mixed with wooden spoon. Stir in semi - sweet chocolate pieces. Spread batter in the greased baking pan. Bake in the 350 degree oven for about 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near center comes out clean. Let cool in pan on a cooling rack. Sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired. Cut into bars. Makes 48 bars.
