MONKEY BARS | |
3/4 c. butter 2/3 c. sugar 2/3 c. brown sugar, packed 1 egg 1 tsp. vanilla 1 c. mashed bananas 2 1/4 c. flour 2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1 (6 oz.) pkg. (1 c.) semi-sweet chocolate pieces Powdered sugar (optional) Turn oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 15x10x1 inch baking pan with a little shortening. In a large mixer bowl, beat butter with electric mixer on medium speed until softened, about 30 seconds. Add sugar and brown sugar and beat until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat well. Stir in mashed bananas. In a medium bowl, stir together flour, baking powder and salt. With mixer on low speed, gradually add the flour mixture to the banana mixture, beating until well mixed. With a wooden spoon, stir in semi-sweet chocolate pieces. Spread batter in the greased baking pan. Bake in a 350 degree oven about 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near center comes out clean. Let cool in the pan on a cooling rack. Sprinkle with powdered sugar, if desired. Cut into bars. 48 bars. |
